Dr. Tarim S. Song, DDS, MS

Born and raised in Chicago, Dr. Tarim Song went on to complete her undergraduate, dental school, and orthodontic studies all at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles (a Triple Trojan!), where she also earned a Masters in Craniofacial Biology and taught orthodontics alongside private practice. She has since transplanted back to her four-seasoned roots to join her Portland-native husband here, where now the Pacific Northwest is home to her family.
She delights in being amongst her colleagues in local and national orthodontic societies as a commitment to staying current with the latest advancements to better treat your unique smile needs. She is proudly a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics and an active member of the American Association of Orthodontics, Oregon State Society of Orthodontists, Angle Society of Orthodontists, Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honors Society, and the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists. You can count on her to be persistent in the pursuit of creating lasting, healthy smiles!
Between creating confident grins and traveling to orthodontic conferences, you can find her and her husband woodworking in the garage, cheering on the Portland Trail Blazers at the Moda Center, being goofy with their toddler at the library, or accompanied by their mini dachshund Tofflemire on a forested hiking trail. She also really loves snow days, live comedy shows, Brontë novels paired with a cup of Smith tea, and rewatching Elf and Edward Scissorhands.
We are honored to have the opportunity to serve your orthodontic needs and beyond: we are eager to hear how our team at Beaverton Orthodontics can better support you both within and outside of the practice. We are dedicated to being a cherished part of an important milestone in your life, and to seeing you and our community thrive in the many years ahead. Thank you for your trust in Beaverton Orthodontics, and we look forward to serving you, your family and our community.
After receiving his undergraduate degree from UCLA in 1984, Steve completed his dental school training with high honors in three years at the University of the Pacific Dental School in San Francisco. He then practiced general dentistry in Santa Rosa and concurrently taught at his dental alma mater until he began his orthodontic residency at OHSU here in beautiful Portland.
Dr. Black provided orthodontic treatment to children and adults in Beaverton and Tigard from 1991 until his retirement in 2024. He earned a strong reputation in the dental and orthodontic community as a person of integrity, high clinical standards, and as someone who seamlessly combined both the art and science of creating beautiful smiles. Your dentist would tell you that Dr. Black’s finished cases were of the highest quality. Your neighbors would tell you that his chairside manner was genuine and caring, and that he always put his patients’ interests before his own.
Dr. Black highly valued ongoing continuing education for himself and for his staff. He was a member of the American Dental Association, Oregon Dental Association, and Washington County Dental Association, and frequently attended their educational conferences. As a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists, and the Oregon State Society of Orthodontists, Dr. Black routinely met with his orthodontic peers in a cooperative and collegial manner to continuously improve patient care and clinical efficiency. He was also a proud member of the World Federation of Orthodontists and attended international orthodontic conferences to gain a broader perspective on the state of the art of orthodontic treatment worldwide.
Dr. Black retired in 2024 and is enjoying time with his family, watching college basketball and football, and playing (occasionally frustrating) golf. He continues to pursue his passion for travel and learning about different world cultures, art, and architecture.
Dr. Song is committed to preserving the warm, patient-centered experience that Dr. Black built and to continuing the exceptional standard of care that patients have trusted for decades. With meticulous attention to detail and a true love for creating lasting smiles, she carries forward the practice’s mission: to provide thoughtful, personalized orthodontic care rooted in integrity, kindness, and excellence. Dr. Song is honored to continue the work Dr. Black began and looks forward to welcoming you with the same warmth and trust you’ve always known.
